From The Principal: Term 1 2025

Topic Community
Date April 11, 2025
As we reach the end of a very busy and rewarding Term 1 at Servite College, I am delighted to reflect on the many wonderful opportunities our students have engaged in over these past months. It has truly been a term full of growth, learning, and community connection.

Highlights of Term 1

This term marked the beginning of our wide range of learning programs across all year levels. It has been pleasing to see our students engaging positively with their learning, taking on new projects, courses, and collaborative work with enthusiasm and commitment.

In particular, our Year 7 students have settled exceptionally well into life at Servite College. Transitioning to secondary school can be a significant change, and it has been wonderful to see them embrace the new opportunities, routines, and friendships that come with this next step in their learning journey. Their energy, curiosity, and willingness to get involved in College life have been a highlight of the term.

Across all year levels, students have been working hard to do their best in their learning, demonstrating perseverance and a positive attitude towards their studies. Whether they are engaged in ATAR pathways, vocational education, or general learning programs, our students are developing essential skills that will serve them well into the future.

As we conclude Term 1, families will receive their child’s Interim Report. This is an important checkpoint in the learning journey, providing feedback on progress, effort, and engagement so far. I encourage all parents and guardians to take the time to sit down with their child, reflect on the report, celebrate successes, and discuss areas for continued growth and improvement. These conversations play a vital role in supporting students to set goals and stay focused on their learning as we move into Term 2.

Sports and Outdoor Education

A major highlight this term has been the official launch of the Liverpool FC International Academy. This exciting initiative has captured the attention of our wider community, and we are proud to now host the largest Liverpool FC International Academy in Australia — an outstanding achievement that positions our College as a leader in student sporting development.

Our Swimming and Cross-Country Carnivals were fantastic celebrations of school spirit, participation, and healthy competition. The energy, enthusiasm, and support shown by our students were truly inspiring. Our Priory Sport program has also been a wonderful success, with Volleyball as our Term 1 sport providing an intense and highly competitive environment for our students to showcase their skills and teamwork.

Our students have also participated in several Northern Associated Schools (NAS) Carnivals this term. These full-day events have allowed students to enjoy fun and competitive sport against other northern suburb schools, further developing their skills and fostering community connections.

We launched new Outdoor Education Expeditions this term, with a standout achievement being our Year 12 students successfully obtaining their Skipper’s Tickets and embarking on their first sea trek. This experience has provided students with valuable skills, confidence, and a spirit of adventure.

The Arts

The Arts have been thriving at Servite College this term. Rehearsals are in full swing for our upcoming College Production of School of Rock, which promises to be a vibrant and exciting showcase of student talent.

Earlier in the term, our Music students attended a successful Music Camp, culminating in a performance at the Nannup Music Festival — an incredible opportunity to share their skills with a wider audience.

We were also proud to commence a significant First Nations community art project this term. In partnership with the staff and students from Aranmore College, this project will see our students working collaboratively to create a powerful artwork that honours and celebrates First Nations culture. This is an exciting initiative that reflects our commitment to reconciliation, collaboration, and cultural understanding.

Service

Throughout Term 1, our College has remained focused on living out our Servite values of service, compassion, and community connection. Our students have embraced many opportunities to raise awareness and funds for various charities and causes, demonstrating their commitment to making a difference.

Events such as the Year 10 Market Day, our colourful Crocs and Socks Day, and the ongoing support of Caritas through Project Compassion have been wonderful examples of this spirit in action. Our Year 12 students also hosted a very special Long Table Lunch in support of Canteen, raising awareness for young people living with cancer.

We were also proud to celebrate Harmony Week as a whole College — a meaningful occasion that reinforced our belief that everyone belongs at Servite. It was a joyful celebration of diversity, unity, and inclusion, strengthening our shared commitment to building a welcoming and respectful community for all.

Easter – the sacred season
As we approach the sacred season of Easter, we are reminded of its profound significance in our Catholic tradition. Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ — a moment of hope, renewal, and new life.

At Servite College, the Easter message beautifully reflects our charism of Community, Marian, and Service. Easter calls us to live in unity and connection with one another, to follow Mary’s example of faith and compassion, and to serve those around us with kindness and generosity. As a Catholic community, Easter is a time for us to reflect on these values and recommit ourselves to living them in our daily lives.

As we conclude this wonderful term, I wish all students, families, and staff a happy, safe, and holy Easter. May this time bring peace, joy, and renewal to you and your loved ones. Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership throughout Term 1. I look forward to welcoming everyone back for an exciting and enriching Term 2.
