Year 12 Chemistry ATAR Excursion
Our Year 12 Chemistry ATAR students enjoyed a unique experience during their latest excursion to the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.
“On Wednesday the 19th July, our Year 12 Chemistry ATAR students immersed themselves in the fascinating world of amino acids and proteins at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.
The excursion involved a comprehensive introduction of these building blocks of life, discovering their structural wonders and vital functions that influence and control our existence. Engaging activities involved a competitive and collaborative protein building exercise, where we raced against the clock to figure out each amino acide and pin them in the right order to create a protein.
The highlight of the day was a gel electrophoresis experiment, a technique use to separate and analyse protein components. The visit concluded with an immersive tour of the facility, inspiring us on our scientific journey.”
